Diabetes and Eye Exams
Why yearly dilated exams matter.
Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of vision loss in working-age adults and often has no symptoms early. The American Diabetes Association recommends a dilated eye exam at diagnosis for type 2 diabetes (and within five years for type 1), then generally every one to two years based on findings. Good blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol control lower risk.
